Formed by ex-Powell Skateboards professionals Tommy Guerrero and Jim Thiebaud out of the infamous Deluxe Distribution in San Francisco, Real keep the fire burning for the outlaw spirit of skateboarding.
Throughout the 1990s, Real endorsed some of the most influential riders in the skateboarding world, including Mark Gonzales, Keith Hufnagel, Max Schaaf, Salman Agah and Quim Cardona. Hufnagel and Schaaf still ride for Real to this day, whilst long time pro Gonzales was given the opportunity to start an offshoot of Real, Krooked Skateboards, under the umbrella of the Deluxe distribution umbrella.
Real have released several influential skate videos during their double-decade spanning lifetime, from the universally acclaimed ‘Non-Fiction’ released in 1997 which highlighted the fun to be had in the hills of San Francisco as well as the technical street skating that was going on there at the time, to Real To Reel in 2001 which introduced the all terrain powerhouse Dennis Busenitz to a wider audience along with other current Real pros Peter Ramondetta and JT Aultz.
Ten years later in 2011, Real dropped ‘Since Day One’, including powerful sections from riders new and old. Guerrero and Thiebaud don’t mess around when it comes to recruiting powerful new generation street rippers that fit the Real family vibe, and this is evident in the addition of the likes of Chima Ferguson and James Hardy, not to mention Thrasher’s Skater Of The Year 2013 Ishod Wair. Here’s to another 20 years of Real!
