Nike SB x Bluetile Skateboards Dunk – Release Information
Every now and then a Dunk turns up that pulls double duty – sharp enough to skate, with a story worth sticking around for (something we know a little about). The Bluetile x Nike SB Dunk Low is one of those. Turfing up at NOTE on Tuesday the 12th of May, it’s the South Carolina shop’s first crack at an SB collab, and it’s a doozy.

Here’s everything you need to know before release.
The shoe – a butterfly in Dunk form
A radiant blue and black upper sets the tone, with orange, white and black Monarch butterfly wing patterns hidden on the inside of the lace wings at the ankle. Pop the laces out and the wings are there waiting – the kind of detail that make these contenders for the (second) best dunk of the year.

The Swoosh gets reworked in a netted material, while debossed and stitched details across the heel and toe box keep the butterfly theme fluttering through the rest of the shoe. Underneath it all sits a blacked-out mid sole with an icy-blue translucent sole with orange highlights mirroring the insole with its gradient from blue to orange.

Caterpillar style furry laces nod to the butterfly fuzzy body, and tongue tags sign off with "All The Best" and "Love, Bluetile" - a handwritten note from the shop.

25 years of Bluetile
Bluetile have been holding it down in South Carolina for over two decades, so when Nike SB came knocking for their first Dunk together, it was never going to be a throwaway.
The Monarch butterfly on this one isn’t just a nice graphic. In Mexican immigrant communities, the Monarch is a symbol of strength and resilience. The shoe is dedicated to Irving Juarez, a Bluetile shop family member who immigrated from Veracruz, Mexico. The team’s words say it best: like the Monarch, Irving and the many immigrants like him bring colour to their community.

It’s the kind of meaning a lot of collabs reach for and few actually hit.
