Introducing the New Balance 933 - Andrew Reynolds' Inaugural NB Numeric Pro Model
When news came over the pond that Reynolds was joining New Balance, conversations between the Workers and Lurkers quickly went to the topic of a pro shoe for The Boss and what the legend could produce with the full weight and skate shoe know-how of the sportswear giant New Balance behind him.
The result of Andrew Reynolds’s meticulous approach to design (and just about anything he does for that matter), his access to the full NB archive and the insane depth of knowledge from the Numeric development team is the 933 – the inaugural Reynolds Pro model for New Balance Numeric. To put it simply the 933 is the perfect blend of a runner and a skate shoe – something only The Boss could have envisaged and brought to life.
New Balance and Andrew Reynolds
Since he joined NB back in 2022, Reynolds has had two signature colourways of the New Balance Numeric 480. One in a sumptuous chocolate brown and another in a clean cream or sea salt (depending on who you ask), both of which featured some of the best fabrics we’ve seen on a skate shoe. Since these takes on an existing shoe model, we knew we were going to be in for an absolute treat when the Baker head honcho released his own model, designed from the ground up. He didn’t disappoint.
The New Balance 933 design
The 933 takes inspiration from New Balance’s long history of running footwear specifically the 990 series. It features many of the same design cues of and could be mistaken for 993 or 992, something that Reynolds has noted he likes about the design. The layered panels of suede and leather, the window pane effect with the strategic placement of mesh, the grey portion of the midsole and the runner toe cap all point towards this mind-merge between skating and running. Just take a look at a 993 and you’ll see the similarities.
Reynolds and New Balance didn’t just make a runner and stop there they’ve carefully built a shoe feels like a running shoe but has the build and tech to make them a damn tank for skating. Thoughtful placement of skate-friendly materials, ABZORB cushioning, NDurance rubber outsoles and an extra padded tongue make these beauts pretty ideal for long days skating. We can’t guarantee these will give you Reynolds level frontside flips but the 933 is definitely built to withstand his flick time and time again.
And while we wouldn’t recommend running a marathon in these NB 933s they will definitely take you from skating Fog Lane for few hours in the morning all the way through any errands you gotta run during the day. An ATV if you will.
Release dates for the 933.
The first colour way is out now (check out the Wheat colourway over on our New Balance Numeric collection) but there’s plenty more on the way. We’ve got the Black and Olive version on route as we type this, the Grey Days model (a New Balance signature) launching on the 23rd of May and the Olive colourway arriving on the 20th of June.
These four versions of the New Balance 933 have been announced but you can expect a whole plethora of the Reynolds signature shoe to be announced and hit the NOTE stockade over the next few months and years.
