Culture beyond the session

Skate Media

Before the internet handed everyone a highlight reel, an event livestream or TikTok sketch, skate videos were everything. They shaped how people skated, what they wore, what music they listened to and which spots they tried to find in their own town. That tradition is alive and well, and we stock the DVDs, books and magazines that are worth your time and shelf space.

From classic full-lengths that defined eras to the latest independent releases, plus a solid selection of photography books and skate mags. This is the good stuff. The kind of thing you actually sit down with.

For the skater who has everything

GIFTS & COLLECTABLES

Not everyone wants a deck for Christmas. Fair enough. This is the section for the skaters, ex-skaters and skate-adjacent people in your life who are harder to buy for than they should be.

Fingerboards, stickers, badges, keyrings, mugs, toys – small bits that land well as gifts and work just as well as treats for yourself. And if you're still stuck, there's always the NOTE Gift Card. Foolproof.

About Lifestyle

This section covers everything that sits outside the hardware and the wardrobe but still belongs on the shelf, the desk or in your bag. Skate DVDs, books, magazines, stickers, badges, homeware and toys, all from brands that are actually part of the culture. Whether you're after a gift, something to watch on a rainy Manchester evening, or just a few stickers to make your board look less naked, you're in the right place.

Lifestyle FAQs

What skate DVDs does NOTE stock?

We stock a rotating selection of skate DVDs – both classic full-lengths and newer independent releases – from the brands and filmmakers that have actually shaped how skateboarding looks and sounds. Titles come and go so the best thing to do is head to the Skate Media section and see what's currently in stock. If you're not sure where to start, the NOTE Post Office AKA our blog is a decent shout for recommendations.

What are the best skateboarding gifts?

This depends entirely on who you're buying for and how well you actually know them. For the skater who has everything, a NOTE Gift Card is foolproof. For everyone else, the NOTE Gift Guide pulls together the best picks across the whole site (stickers, books, DVDs, homeware, toys and more) all from brands that are actually part of the culture.

What should I buy a skateboarder for Christmas?

The NOTE Lifestyle section is a good place to start. A classic skate DVD, a photography book, a skate magazine, stickers, badges or homeware, all from brands that are genuinely part of the culture. For the skater who seemingly has everything, a NOTE Gift Card lets them pick exactly what they want themselves. Redeemable online and in-store on Thomas Street, Manchester.

Does NOTE sell Gift Cards?

We do. And if you're struggling to work out what to get someone who's into skating, a NOTE Gift Card is the most sensible thing you'll do all week. Available online and in-store on Thomas Street.

What is the best skateboarding DVD of all time?

Ask ten skaters and you'll get ten different answers and at least three arguments. The usual names that come up: Mouse, Mosaic, Sorry, Fully Flared, Menikmati, Mindfield. But honestly the best one is usually whichever you watched first and wore out on repeat. Head to our Skate Media section and make your own mind up.

What skateboarding magazines are still being published?

Quite a few, as it turns out. Thrasher is the big one – been going since 1981 and still the closest thing skating has to an institution. North, Closer, The Skateboarder’s Companion, Vague and Free Skate Mag are all worth your time too. Print isn't dead in skateboarding – a good issue is worth keeping. Check the Magazines section to see what's currently on the NOTE shelves.
