A decade in the making

From Distro to Label

Back in 2013, founders Peter Kolks and Ric van Rest were running distro out of Amsterdam, helping brands like Palace, Polar and Magenta find their footing across the Benelux while filming clips, shooting photos and backing the local scene along the way.

Launching their own label felt like the obvious next move, and by 2016 Pop Trading Company was up and running. The name comes from the sound of a board cracking off the pavement, but the clothing always pushed things somewhere slightly different - relaxed silhouettes, clean graphics and subtle tailoring with one foot in skateboarding and the other in contemporary menswear.

What started as a local operation quickly turned into one of skateboarding’s most recognisable labels, without losing the scene connection that made it worth paying attention to in the first place.

The Team & The Collabs

Having never drifted too from its core, Pop’s team is stacked with talent from across the Netherlands and wider Benelux scene, many of whom regularly appear in the brand’s campaigns and videos as naturally as they do in the streets of ‘Dam.

Since the early distro days, Pop have consistently put out footage, culminating in 2024’s first full-length video, POP. Like the clothing, the skating feels considered without losing its character – technical when it needs to be, loose when it doesn’t.

Then there’s the collaborations. Nike SB, adidas, Converse, Vans, Parra, Paul Smith, Burberry, Miffy and more – all handled with the same understated approach that’s made the brand stand out in the first place. Few skate companies move this comfortably between core skateboarding and the wider world without feeling forced.
