Eric Koston's Nike SB Air Max 95

Nike SB are back and this time they’re working with SB legend and one of the best skaters of the 90s and 2000s Eric Koston. Koston was an early advocate for the doozy that is the skateable Air Max 95 so it’s only right he gets his own colourway. Part of the shoe’s 30th anniversary, this Koston-flavoured Nike SB Air Max 95 is a fitting tribute to the sneaker that was constantly referenced, copied and replicated over the years and held an important place in culture on both sides of the Atlantic.

Nike SB x Eric Koston Air Max 95 Obsidian Details

Eric Koston’s been part of the Nike SB story since way back in 2009, and over the years his fingerprints have ended up all over some of the brand’s most iconic skate shoes. But arguably one of his biggest moves has to be helping rework the legendary Air Max 95 for skateboarding.

Fast forward to the 30th anniversary of the AM95, and Nike SB’s handed the keys back to Koston for his own spin on the icon — a shoe that nods to his early signature days and brings back his trademark mix of classic colour palettes and subtle detail tweaking.

Just like the OG, the Nike SB Air Max 95 by Eric Koston takes cues from the ole human anatomy, the midsole’s the spine, the upper’s all muscle, and the laces are the ribs holding it all together. This beaut has a mix of layered suedes panels and mesh and nylon around the laces making this real stand-out skate shoe. 

On top of that, stamped across the toebox is the Thai script “ไนกี้” – translating to Nike – a subtle salute to Koston’s Thai heritage. Up top, more personal touches appear on the tongue, where the usual Air Max label on the right shoe swaps out for one that proudly reads Koston.

The Obsidian / Speed Yellow / Midnight Navy Nike SB Air Max 95 arrives this weekend and will be available on the Nike SB collection page. Along with the skate shoes, Eric Koston has pulled together a banging selection of top-tier clobber, we’re talking some damn good denim, flannel shirtage and a pretty useful zip jacket.
