There are skaters who get the opportunity to do a colourway or pro-model and they leave it to the guys in the lab coats to come up with the best designs and colours. And then there’s Dashawn Jordan, who reportedly turned up to Nike SB with a fully-formed PDF of colourway references he'd been sitting on for the better part of five years. The man came prepared.

The result? One of the more genuinely compelling Dunks to surface in recent memory.

The Dashawn Jordan x Nike SB Dunk Low is, at its core, a shoe about home, specifically Phoenix, Arizona, and the D-Backs' (or the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team to us brits) iconic purple and teal uniforms.Deep purple and turquoise jewel tones hit the tongue and heel, while white and grey faux-snakeskin leather runs through the overlays – a not so subtle nod to the western diamondback rattlesnakes native to the Arizona desert. Black suede keeps everything anchored below.
The details are where it gets properly interesting. A fanged copper snake charm on the laces sits alongside snake graphics on the inner tongue tag and insole – the kind of touches that separate this shoe from your regular dunk launch and make it a release worth setting the ole’ alarm clock for.
Jordan grew up in Chandler just outside Phoenix, has his own skate shop in Tempe, and skates with the sort of energy that makes everyone around him want to get on a board.
